Mobility assessment

Wheelchair onto train - mobility assessmentAccess Independent's Independent Mobility Assessors support local authority transport departments as part of the discretionary assessment process where applicants do not meet the automatic criteria for a travel permit, such as blue badges, freedom passes, parking bays and/or taxi cards. As a number of our customers will testify, engaging with Access Independent in the supply of Independent Mobility Assessors (IMA) ensures applicants receive a 'fair, transparent and open' process with only those with the most 'deserving need' being eligible for a scheme. This improves efficiency and reduces cost to the authority in line with government reform to make the application process more robust.

As reported by one of our Local Authority customers following a recent survey: "Moving away from GPs to Independent Mobility Assessors has seen the number of approvals for Disabled Freedom Passes be reduced from 96% to 40%".

We work with Local Authorities throughout the UK including Birmingham, Staffordshire, Kirklees, Bedford and in London Harrow, Sutton, Kingston, Southwark and Newham,

This is a reference for us from Fern Silverio, Divisional Director, London Borough of Harrow

"Access Independent was appointed shortly after Harrow fundamentally changed its process around concessionary travel and centralised all three areas-Taxi Cards, Freedom Passes and Blue Badges. The company had no problem adapting to the newly adopted and robust processes it found in place and has adhered to them rigorously. As the contract has continued, it has helped Harrow evolve processes so a seamless service is delivered to the customer"

And this is another reference from Angie Middleton , Transport Equalities Officer, Staffordshire County Council "the company has formed an excellent working relationship with SCC. They have suggested improvements to the service delivery which have been implemented a result of which is a more effective service delivery"
