Mobility assessment
Access Independent's Occupational Therapists support local authority transport departments as part of the discretionary assessment process where applicants do not meet the automatic criteria for a travel permit, such as blue badges, freedom passes, parking bays and/or taxi cards. As a number of our customers will testify, engaging with Access Independent in the supply of Independent Healthcare Assessors (IHA) ensures applicants receive a 'fair, transparent and open' process with only those with the most 'deserving need' being eligible for a scheme. This improves efficiency and reduces cost to the authority in line with government reform to make the application process more robust. As reported by one of our Local Authority customers following a recent survey: "Moving away from GPs to Independent Healthcare Assessors has seen the number of approvals for Disabled Freedom Passes be reduced from 96% to 40%".
