| Minimising the risks of manual handling
Our specialist team of occupational therapists, based throughout the UK, advises staff in the public and private sector on the manual handling techniques that should be utilised with service users. The advisors’ expertise can help to minimise instances of injury and consequent disability, or reduce the likelihood of existing problems being exacerbated, particularly for care staff in residential units. You can arrange for an Access Independent occupational therapist to visit your premises or home in order to provide expert advice and training on equipment and adaptations, such as mobile/ceiling track hoists. The OT will use an ergonomic approach to undertake a comprehensive risk assessment, taking into account such factors as the manual handling tasks in question, the capacity of the individual, the load, the environment and the equipment currently in use. Training Access Independent can also provide training in manual handling instruction for small groups of staff in all organisations. It can include advice, demonstrations and guidance to ensure safe practice with manual handling of service users and their handlers and/or inanimate objects.
